About Me

I'm Joy Jones and I love what I do!
I am an artist, photographer, and proud mother.  When I am happiest there is this insatiable urge inside of me to snap a photo.  I want to make the image something that is intangible, permanent.   I want to preserve that joy of the moment forever, so that I may have it to adore any time my soul needs a smile.

As far back as I can remember I was an artist. I started with pencils- drawing pictures of photos I had seen in my dad's National Geographic magazines or from what I had seen outdoors.  Even though I was an artist first, I have loved taking photographs since I was 10 years old.    I love to get outdoors and capture nature at its finest, to see things in a different way and express them in photographs to share with others.  I love to capture special moments, so that they are not forgotten later on.  My photography has been just for fun.   I guess you could call it a hobby... or borderline obsession, but photography has been my greatest passion.
I use natural light in my photography and prefer to use available light whenever possible -both for its beauty and for the natural style it lends to a finished portrait.   Working with the rich outdoor colors and natural to dramatic light offers a natural and artist look to my photos of nature and people of all ages.  I use window light to illuminate the delicate skin of a baby.  I love the innocence of sweet, sleepy newborns and angelic babies with soft skin and bright sparkling eyes.  Capturing the precious expressions and little quirks of babies is so important while they are young and as they grow.
Over the last decade, I began taking portrait photographs as a "job on the side", but I found myself thinking about photography all the time, and never thinking of it as "work".  And now...I love getting to know each of my clients and helping them to create photographs that they will enjoy for years to come.  I feel so fortunate that they invite me into their lives or homes to observe and capture their most precious moments. My greatest ambition is to capture those special moments... the personality... the spirit... and to preserve them forever, so that they may always be looked back upon with a smile. Those moments are a gift to me as much as to my clients because nothing brings me more joy than seeing their expressions as they view their pictures.  I am hopeful that viewing my work will bring each of you as many smiles as it has brought to me!
